On Saturday night, storms with strong winds rolled through Moncks Corner, and a grandfather and grandson from out of town lost control of their fishing boat on Lake Moultrie at 10 p.m. Berkeley County Sheriff's Office wasn't notified until 9 a.m., nearly 12 hours later when a someone reported an overturned boat, said BCSO Captain Bobby Shuler.
At 1:30 p.m., a 73-year-old man was found in the water and picked up by a pontoon fisherman, but the grandfather said that his grandson was still out somewhere. Then at 3 p.m., the Santee Circle Rural Volunteer Fire Department was flagged down by someone on a sandy beach island on Lake Moultrie. It was the grandson, whose age is unknown currently. BCSO Captain Bobby Shuler said that life jackets may have been the reason they are still alive.
