When summer arrives, Hamilton's city arborist, Dave Bienemann, gets questions about trees in the medians of High Street near Ohio 4, and along South Erie Boulevard. Hamilton has focused on a beautification program in recent years, planting trees — especially on the city's East Side, where trees were much less prevalent — to improve the beauty of neighborhoods, and promote other benefits, such as cooling homes in summer, keeping thermostats lower in winter by muffling winds that would make buildings colder, and absorbing harmful carbon dioxide.
