Featured speaker Angelica Galante, Director of the Plurilingual Lab at McGill University, offers two linked presentations on plurilingual instruction and creating linguistically inclusive classrooms at CLWB.
In the language classroom, validating student languages and cultures has several benefits, including enhancing student engagement, cognition, critical thinking, empathy, and language learning. Many teachers want to use the plurilingual strategy, but don’t know where to start.
Galante’s first presentation, Implementing Plurilingual Instruction: Teacher and Student Perspectives, will explore the results of classroom research into plurilingual pedagogy. A discussion about the potential benefits and challenges will round out the session.
The second, Transforming Classes into Linguistically Inclusive Spaces: A Practice-Oriented Workshop will provide hands-on examples of strategies such as translanguaging spaces, comparons nos langues, cross-cultural comparisons, and translation. Participants will leave the workshop with concrete ideas for transforming their own classrooms into linguistically inclusive spaces.
CLWB registration is only $125 for CASLT and BCATML members, so register now.
