Breast cancer is no longer an acute disease and survivorship is on the rise. Healthy lifestyle changes have contributed to this success. Recent recognition of the human gut microbiome and its role in breast cancer has become an area of major research interest. The microbiome is extremely responsive to the Western diet and wise choices can stimulate those microbes that play an important role in estrogen metabolism, which fuel the majority of breast cancers.
