Systemic racism has a profound effect on health, health care, and health outcomes in the United States. There are countless stark racial health disparities in this country. Racism, rather than race, is now recognized as the cause of these health disparities. Systemic racism and racism in the health professions must be opposed with antiracism, which is an ongoing process of taking action to end racial inequities. Ultimately, the goal is racial equity, which is essential for health equity.
The Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health (JMWH) has compiled a Racism, Antiracism, and Racial Equity Library, containing articles published in JMWH that focus on racism, antiracism, and racial equity. Articles are organized first by general topic, and then by year of publication, from newest to oldest. Explore the library.
