The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office announced a new grant program aimed at conserving forestlands for timber and recreation. From Sept. 1 to Oct. 1, 2020, communities can apply for Community Forests Program grants of up to $3 million. The grants must be used to buy at least 5 acres of forestland and the land must be maintained as forestland forever. The land must also be used for timber harvest or other income generating activities or to provide recreation opportunities like trails.
