Small victory against rent repayment deadline could lead to larger win SCRHA Thanks to your grassroots efforts over the last few days, the San Diego City Council did not extend the eviction moratorium rent repayment date through March 2021. Councilmember Jennifer Campbell asked Councilmember Gomez to amend her motion to extend the repayment period only through December of 2020. While better, the real victory was that motion was approved on a 5-4 vote, meaning the proposal has to come back for a second reading, and can also be vetoed by the Mayor. The SCRHA is also exploring other options including potential legal action. The City Attorney's office at the hearing stated that they believe their ordinance is defensible. However, when asked about the conflict with Code of Civil Procedure, which only allows unlawful detainers for rent due within the previous year, they did not have an answer.
