Although CT scans have declined in the past decade among pediatric patients presenting to the emergency department, advanced imaging has increased overall, according to an analysis of 32 tertiary care children's hospitals. Among more than 26 million emergency department visits recorded from 2009-2018, the proportion involving CT scans significantly decreased from 3.9% to 2.9% (P<0.001), translating to about 28,000 fewer CT scans, although most of this decrease occurred in the first half of the study period and CT use plateaued starting in 2014, reported Jennifer R. Marin, MD, MSc, of the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, and colleagues.
