West Point marks 40 years since its 1st female cadets graduated DVIDS Marene Allison wanted to make sure it was real. As she stood near the Cadet Chapel with her family, friends and members of her cadet company about a half hour before the Class of 1980’s graduation from the U.S. Military Academy, she had to check. So, she turned to her roommate and asked if this was all real. If they were actually about to graduate, or if it was all a dream and she was going to wake up on Reception Day and have to start the journey all over again.
