It's not just farmland and pastures being affecting by this summer's drought. In a recent County Ag Report, Kathy McCarty has more on how the heat is impacting the forest industry. Dry conditions aren't the only concern affecting agricultural livelihoods in Aroostook. Mike Parisio, a Forest Entomologist with the Maine Forest Service, says temperature fluctuations this year have taken a toll on evergreens. "Certainly a late frost that impacted some of that new growth and then drought stress but actual heat stress perhaps. Fir's not really used to growing in those kind of temperatures. And there was some really extreme heats in the northern part of the state," says Mike Parisio.
