US Forest Service to Hold Virtual Meetings on Nantahala, Pisgah Forest Plan (NC) Asheville Citizen Times, June 2, 2020 The U.S. Forest Service has extended the comment period for the proposed Nantahala and Pisgah forest plan and draft Environmental Impact Statement until June 29, adding an additional 45 days from its original May 14 deadline. The long-awaited plan — seven years in the making and released for public review and comment Feb. 14 — was delayed numerous times over the years due to government shutdowns and natural disasters and hit another snag when the coronavirus pandemic hit Western North Carolina in March.
