Good leaders make people better, including themselves. If you cannot manage or develop yourself, you will not be able to manage or develop others. Sadly, good leadership is rather rare. Whether in business or politics, the typical experience people have with their leaders is more negative than positive. If competent leadership were the norm, we would not live in a world with dismal employee engagement levels, depressed levels of trust in governments, politicians, and institutions (even prior to the pandemic) and little overall confidence in corporate leaders.
