As promised last week, this week we introduce our second group of speakers for CLWB 2020 — Saturday’s keynote speaker and three more featured presenters.
Keynote speaker Kaleb Child (Musgamdzi) is well-known to BCATML members as Director of Indigenous Education for British Columbia. As a member of the Kwakiutl (Kwagiulth) First Nation, Kaleb is committed to Indigenous language and culture revitalization, as well as strengthening rights-based relationships. The topic of his keynote address for Saturday is an essential one for reconciliation: Kans Hilile: “Making Things Right”: Perspectives for Indigenous Education.
Featured presenter Luisa Canuto is the Italian Language Program Director in the Department of French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia. Her expertise includes educational technologies in the classroom, the impact of service learning on the linguistic and metacognitive development of students, and curriculum program development and renewal.
Curriculum design/technology coach Catherine Ousselin teaches French at Mount Vernon High School in Washington State. Highly active in language teaching associations in the United States as president of the Washington Association for Language Teaching and other volunteer posts, Catherine frequently blogs about and willingly shares her expertise on technologies for language teaching.
Maria Del Carmen Rodriguez de France is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Indigenous Education at the University of Victoria. With over 35 years of experience in education, she facilitates courses on Indigenous worldview and believes that shifting our perspective ought to be the starting point for working towards naturalizing Indigenous knowledge within our work.
