Via retrospectively studying a cohort of women presenting with heart failure in pregnancy between 2004 and 2017, researchers sought to inscribe the management and etiology of heart failure among these women. From 2004 to 2017, they identified 120 cases (in 93,122 deliveries, antepartum heart failure 51 percent, postpartum heart failure 49 percent). This suggests the heart failure incidence of 0.13 percent. The leading etiological factor was preeclampsia, but it may have been historically under-acknowledged.
