Health care experts are pushing for the government to create a nationwide special enrollment period (SEP) amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. An SEP would allow uninsured Americans — of which there were roughly 28.5 million as of 2018 — to immediately sign up for health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace.
