Vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) can be a safe and satisfying birth option for women who have had a previous caesarean, but rates in Australia remain low (11%). VBAC rates are quite high in countries such as Finland, Norway and The Netherlands (38–55%) and low in Australia and the U.S. (12%). In Australia the vast majority of caesareans undertaken are due to repeat caesareans.
