Blood clots are nature’s way of helping stanch the flow of blood from a cut or wound. But blood can also clot while in the body — and that’s a danger. Deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, is the clinical name for this occurrence. When a blood clot, called a thrombus, forms in one or more of the deep veins in your body, usually in your legs, it can cause pain or swelling. It also can cause no noticeable symptoms.
