Colorado and Virginia have become the latest US states to take steps to regulate the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in products.
The substances — which have traditionally been used as replacements for ozone-depleting substances (ODSs) but have been shown to contribute to global warming — have increasingly been the focus of local regulatory activity. Federal restrictions, meanwhile, have been curtailed due to an industry legal challenge.
