You never know when you’re going to need medical evacuation coverage during a trip — or how much. John Dury didn’t. His misadventure shows the importance of having enough medical evacuation coverage on your travel insurance policy. Dury, who was vacationing in Zimbabwe with his family, started his trip on the wrong foot when he collided with a giant cactus while wheeling his luggage into his lodge. A thorn punctured his kneecap, and he had to visit a local clinic. The next day, while he was riding an elephant with his son, the animal became frightened and threw them both to the ground. His son was fine, but Dury broke his ribs in eight places, puncturing his lung. And he broke his collarbone.
