The Space Force may be the U.S. military's youngest service branch, but it already has 10 units based outside the continental United States, along with facilities in Greenland, the United Kingdom, Ascension Island, Diego Garcia, Alaska, Hawaii and Guam. The service was established Dec. 20 with a force of 16,000 military and civilian personnel, as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020. The Pentagon's first Space Force budget proposal calls for $15.4 billion in 2021. It's still a work in progress, according to the official Space Force website.
