North Carolina: Candidates spar over Medicaid, education funding in state Senate forum The News Reporter State Senate politics came to Columbus County, North Carolina, Thursday during a candidates' forum sponsored by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. Danny Earl Britt Jr., a Republican Lumberton attorney, is seeking his third term in the North Carolina Senate District 13 seat, and he's being challenged by Democrat Barbara Yates-Lockamy of Whiteville, a retired educator who also served as a chair of the Columbus County Board of Education.
