For the 2021 tax year, the ACA affordability threshold will increase. That means employees will likely have to contribute more towards their employer-sponsored health care. IRS Notice Rev Proc. 2020-36 states that beginning Jan. 1, 2021, the ACA affordability threshold for the 2021 tax year will be 9.83%, up just a small portion from 2020's 9.78%. The affordability threshold is used for determining whether or not an employer's sponsored health coverage is affordable as required by the ACA's Employer Mandate.
