Dr. St. Elmo Brady was the first African American to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry in the United States (1916). The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign led the creation and production of a documentary about Dr. Brady entitled “Twenty Whites and One 'Other.'†The documentary recently earned a Telly Award which honors excellence in video and television.
