Each day, 12,000-plus legally innocent people languish in Ohio jails. Many can’t afford cash bail. Some bail-reform supporters favor risk assessments (“Ohio bail reform should include risk assessments: Michael Fuduric,†cleveland.com, May 10), but Ohio has been right to forego the mandatory use of those tools.
Why? They produce racially biased outcomes. They are computer algorithms relying on criminal justice data, which is riddled with racial bias.
